Change of the Electronic Communications Act benefits consumers

This latest amendment introduces a number of regulations of the services providers' terms and conditions vis-a-vis consumers.

For example, with effect even on currently valid contracts, the maximum contractual penalty for early termination is being lowered from 1/5 to 1/20 of the remaining payments and can only be imposed in the first 3 months of the contract.

The act also introduces a requirement for a "one-stop-shop" for phone/mobile operators - the consumer should be required to contact only the new operator, who will deal with the original operator by itself.

These changes will require the majority of service providers to update their respective TCs.

Also, CTA will newly publish an independent comparison tool to transparently compare service providers, incl. fees and quality of services. We are curious but optimistic!
