Watch online how the Czech Republic is transposing the controversial EU directive on copyright.

At this time last year it might have seemed that with the adoption of Directive (EU) 2019/790 2019 of the European Parliament and of the Council on copyright and related rights in the Digital Single Market and amending Directives 96/9/EC and 2001/29/EC, the internet will never be the same. Petitions against the adoption of Articles 11 and 13 were drafted, demonstrations took place and Wikipedia launched a protest strike. However, the directive was adopted on 17 April and must be transposed by the individual Member States by 7 June 2021.

The Creative Economy Center of the University of Glasgow has now launched a web portal that monitors this transposition. It provides an overview of all proposed or already approved laws in individual countries and thus enables essentially online monitoring of how the Directive has been specifically reflected in national legislation. So far, the Czech Republic is one of the less active countries where transposition is still only in the preparation phase and no real output has yet been recorded.

According to our sources, the Ministry of Culture is currently in the process of preparing RIA and basic principles of the future transposition.
